APPEAL FOR JOINT EFFORTS TO FIGHT COVID-19

APPEAL FOR JOINT EFFORTS TO FIGHT COVID-19

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board shall ensure the access to quality-assured hand sanitizers that are manufactured in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices so as to meet minimum prescribed specifications and standards.

In this regard, eligible pharmaceutical manufacturers in Kenya authorized by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board to manufacture topical preparations are encouraged to spare a portion of their manufacturing capacity for the production of quality-assured and affordable alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

It is to be noted that, by virtue of established Quality Management System and a track history of compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices, authorized pharmaceutical manufacturers possess the requisite infrastructure, raw and packaging materials, knowledge and practical experience needed for the production and packaging of quality-assured hand sanitizers.

Similarly, authorized wholesalers of Medical products complying with Good Distribution Practice are encouraged to leverage their established distribution infrastructure to deliver quality-assured alcohol-based hand sanitizers to authorized pharmacies and chemists countrywide.

As part of corporate social responsibility, pharmaceutical manufacturers and/or medical product distributors are encouraged to employ their existing capacity to deliver cost-effective hand sanitizers.  They are encouraged to complement government efforts in ensuring the availability and access at all levels during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Conversely, PPB encourages consumers and health care professionals to report adverse events experienced with the use of hand sanitizers to PPB’s PV system accessible at PVeRS.
